    Description

    FEATURED:
A set of five vintage scarce LYND WARD BOOKPLATES, all unused and with an unusual design by WARD that we have not seen before.
These plates, all identical, feature a charming cottage, with thatched roof , under two huge trees, with house lights on, And this scene sits atop an opened book, with the iconic WARD Milky Way stars sprinkled above it all and his pale blue background, with detailed dark blue trees, house and book, and a bottom section for the book owner to write his/her name in,  these mint and very charming plates would be so beautiful framed, or placed into your most beloved books, should you choose to do so...
LYND WARD, winner of the Caldecott, Newbery, and Library of Congress  Medals, illustrated over 100 children's books as well as his own and other adult novels,  continues to be very collectible today, is a highly regarded artist, known for his "deco"style  and  his own distinctly stylized art.  Hard to find these bookplates, which were beautifully printed by the Antioch Bookplate Company years ago, and recently found in a box  of mixed Antioch Bookplate Co. plates, at an estate sale in Ohio.  In great vintage condition, with beautiful soft colors, also unusual for WARD, who had much of his work done in black/white.
Measures:  2 7/8 inches X 3 7/8 inches.  Set of five plates, original glue still affixed to back. Verified to be LYND WARD plates, as we located the original box they came in, which is NOT included in this sale, is shown only for authentication purposes.
