    About The Hucks Starter:
It is based on the Model T Ford car chassis. Invented by Bentfield Charles Hucks who was also the 1st Briton to perform a loop in an aircraft in 1913. The chain driven shaft was powered by the car engine. A telescopic shaft with vertical adjustment to allow for the different heights of aircraft and has a claw bar at its front end to engage with a dog fixed to the boss of the propeller. The starter is positioned in front of the aircraft and adjusted until the claw can be engaged with the propeller dog. It rotates the aircraft engine and when the pilot turns on his magneto switches and the engine fires, the telescopic shaft disengages itself from the propeller dog and retracts. This invention saved many hands and arms. It was used by many countries throughout the '20's, '30's and early '40's. See last pic of actual one this is based off of in Museum.
