Infrared Conversion ServiceInfrared Conversion Service for Digital Cameras
About Myself:
My name is Isaac Szabo. I'm a nature photographer living in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. I specialize in landscape, underwater, and infrared photography. I have been converting cameras to infrared professionally for close to a decade, over which time I have converted more than a thousand cameras. I have extensive knowledge and experience which allows me to employ the very best conversion techniques. I use premium Schott (Zeiss) filters, guarantee no sensor dust, and perform proper focus calibration. My customers can rest assured that they are receiving a conversion of the very highest quality.
Included in this listing:
I am offering to convert your digital camera into a full-time infrared (IR) camera, making it easy to take high-quality infrared photos handheld at normal shutter speeds. This would be perfect if you have recently upgraded to a new camera and would like to put your old camera to good use while exploring a really fun, unique, and interesting area of photography. The standard conversion is with the 720nm filter. I also offer 590nm, 830nm, and full spectrum conversions. Once you place an order, I will email you shipping instructions so that you can send your camera to me. Depending on your camera model, I may need you to include accessories such as a battery or lens. When I receive your camera, I will perform the infrared conversion and then ship it back to you, usually within a week.
Which Cameras can be Converted?
Nearly all digital cameras (and digital video cameras) can be converted to infrared. I should not have any problem converting whatever camera model or brand you have, but you can always contact me before you bid and ask me about the specific camera model you have (especially if it is a brand not listed under my conversion prices).
Price List:
0 - Canon APS-C, Nikon APS-C, Sony APS-C, Pentax K-01, Compact (all brands)
5 - Fuji APS-C, Panasonic MFT
5 - Full Frame (all brands)
5 - Olympus MFT, Pentax DSLR
The Infrared Conversion:
The infrared conversion involves replacing the internal IR-blocking hot mirror filter with an IR longpass filter and recalibrating the camera's autofocus system for IR light.
After the Infrared Conversion:
After the IR conversion, you will be able to use your camera just like normal – look through the viewfinder, autofocus, auto expose, use normal exposure lengths, etc. The result is high-quality infrared images with low noise. Other methods of digital infrared photography such as attaching an IR filter to the lens of a normal, unconverted camera block your ability to see through the viewfinder, require very long shutter speeds, and result in poor-quality, noisy images.
The strange effects of IR photography are due to the fact that objects absorb and reflect infrared light differently than they do visible light. Blue skies and water absorb IR light and become very dark, while clouds, vegetation, and skin reflect IR light and become very light. Straight out of the camera, 720nm images will have a reddish tone which can look quite nice. A red/blue channel swap in Photoshop will make the sky and/or water a more natural blue color. Personally, I usually prefer to convert most of my IR images to the classic black and white, but it is nice to have options. Also, if you really prefer black and white IR images and do not want to mess with color, you can always set your camera to black and white mode and get great black and white IR images straight out of the camera.
