    Description

    This vintage volume is ''Aviation Engines, a practical treatise covering operation and maintenance of modern airplane engines, including carburetor and magneto adjustments, lubrication, and ignition operations.'' It was writte by Ray F. Kuns, principal of Automotive Trade School in the Cincinnati Public Schools, and published in 1931 by the American Technical Society.
    Contents include aviation engine requirements, fixed radial airplane engines, Curtiss OX-5 engine, Liberty V-type engine, three Wright Whirlwinds, Wright Gypsy, Pratt & Whitney aviation engine, LeBlond aviation engine, Kinner airplane engine, Warner Searab airplane engine, Scintilla aircraft magneto, Stromberg airplane engine carburetors, spark plugs for aviation engines, development of the in-line air-cooled aircraft engine, American Cirrus Mark III, Velie and Lambert radial aircraft engine, Curtiss Challenger six-cylinder fixed radial aircraft engine and Continental seven-cylinder air-cooled radial engine.
    The hardcover volume measures 5 3.4 by 8 1/4 inches and contains 198 pages plus an index. It is illlustrated with black-and-white photographs and diagrams. The boards are burgundy cloth with gilt lettering on the front and spine. The boards show age and handling wear, and there is compromised cloth at the sppine and more prominently on the rear. An old price and some letters and numerals are written in pencil ont he first free endpaper, the pages are lightly age-toned and there are a few tiny dog-ears at the lower corners, but otherwise the volume is in good shape.
