Description

Unique and rare piece by
Sarsaparilla of New Jersey,
from the mid 1980's.
This early pilot statue is solid aluminum and depicts an early aviation pilot in " dress gear" with helmet , goggles, boots and holding a detachable propeller that can be used as a letter opener. The pilots head is hinged to reveal a mini cigarette lighter.  The lighter is not working, it does spark but does not have a flame. Not sure if it needs butane after 35 years or if it will work.   Solid sculpture weighing just shy of four pounds.
Below is what I could find on this piece on the web:
American Art Deco Revival pilot aluminum statue table lighter is almost an exact re-issue of the rare English Pilot table lighter from the Art Deco period. This model was manufactured in the United States by
Sarsaparilla
during the 1980's. The 1930's version had a wheel and flint lighter,  this one features a butane model. The propeller on the original English model was fixed,  this one is detachable and can be used as a letter opener.
