6th Infantry Division White Back Patch WWII Vintage New Guinea Pacific

The Patch:
This Auction is for 1 WWII Vintage 6th Infantry Division patch with a white back.
This patch has been used and is in good condition.  It has a very nice white backing.  This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic.
The History: The 6th Infantry Division was on active duty when WWII began.  It participated in the
Tennessee
maneuvers before being sent to
Hawaii
in July of 1943, where it received jungle training.  The division entered combat in 1944 against the Japanese near
Wakde
,
New Guinea
.  They attacked west of Toem and fought the Japanese on Lone Tree Hill in 10 days of intense combat.  They secured
Maffin
Bay
and then made an assault landing at Sansapor on the northwest coast of
New Guinea
.  Their next fighting came when they took part in the assault landings at Lingayen Gulf in the
Philippines
.  They moved across
Northern Luzon
and attacked Munoz destroying 57 enemy tanks and artillery pieces.  They spent over 100 days in combat while splitting the Japanses forces on
Luzon
.  Major General Edwin D. Patrick, the division commander was killed in action during this drive.  They next attacked the Shimbo Line near Manilla and captured
Mount
Mataba
,
Mount
Pecawagen
, and Bolog.  They contacted Philippine forces near Bonaue on July 26, 1945.  After the surrender, the 6th Division was assigned to occupy the southern half of the U.S. Zone in
Korea
.
