Description
Up for bids is an antique fireman's or  lumberjack's tool that does not appear to be marked with a maker's name.  The number 1879 is stamped on one side which "may be" the year it was made or put into use.   The steel tool measures 12 1/4 inches long and weighs 15 ounces.
Again I'm not sure if this tool was used by fireman or lumberjacks...both are known to have used a tool like this.  I live in a logging era so I believe that the piece "could" be a  logging pike (rafting hook) and was attached to a long wood pole.   The picaroon was used to move logs along as they were being floated down a river and were also used in booming areas (sorting areas) near the saw mills.  This one was found in the Muskegon/Grand Haven, Michigan area....Muskegon was once referred to as the "Lumber Queen" city in the 1800's.   But again bear in mind that this could be a fireman's pike as well.     Please see the photographs to determine exactly what you will receive.
