    Akers called this date "the most underrated three dollar gold piece in choice uncirculated condition from the 1860's". NGC has graded 6 MS-64's, a single 64+, and just 2 coins numerically finer at MS-65. This is a an exceptionally nice example with a vibrant orange-gold luster patina that exhibits a subtle green hue. The strike is strong and there are fewer marks than expected for the grade. The diagonal striations, that are always present on this date, are less prominent than usually seen and the eye appeal is outstanding! A great opportunity for the advanced date collector of this popular series.
